Ms. Hanson...

Marlene Hanson, the youngest of four children, was raised in eastern Montana (Saco). Summers were spent summer fallowing, swathing, baling and stacking hay and occasionally horseback riding to return bulls back into the summer pasture twenty miles north of Saco.

Marlene graduated from the University of Montana in 1980 with a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) degree. She worked at Angel Child Care (Work/Study Program) and during the summers at a nursing home (night shift) and the Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs (cleaning and clerking) to finance her education. She participated in the Vienna Study Abroad Program her senior year studying German, singing with the UM Chamber Chorale and traveling to Salzburg and Venice.

In 1982, Marlene taught band and choir for a semester at Evergreen Junior High in the teacher’s absence. She also taught preschool (3-4 and 4-5 year olds) at Sugar and Spice for three years followed by a year of substitute teaching in the Flathead Valley.

In 1987, she was hired by SD #6 as an elementary music specialist and presently enjoys teaching first through fifth graders.

Marlene received a Master of Arts in Music Education (MAME) degree in 2001 from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota after four and a half summers of study.
